The KA-BAR 1266 Modified Tanto is a new take on a classic blade design. Made with our famous 1095 Cro-Van steel. The 1266 has a Kraton G handle, a synthetic material that holds up in the elements. The Modified Tanto comes with a rugged glass-filled nylon sheath.

Please note a rolling change has been made to the markings on the 1211 series of Fighting/Utility Knives. The "1211 USA" marking has been removed and you may receive a knife without this marking. Only the marking has changed; this is not a change to where or how these products are made.

The KA-BAR Attachment System features two sets of loops, one large and one small, for a total of four. The Attachment System is made from Celcon® and comes with eight (8) slotted truss screws #8-32 x 3/8”, eight (8) posts #8-32 x 3/8”, and eight (8) spacers.

The KA-BAR Attachment System is designed to work in a number of configurations, including horizontal carry, and may work with other products outside of the KA-BAR lineup, such as holsters. It is MOLLE-compatible; MOLLE straps and/or cordage are not included.

  - Nice knife, size, handle... As I put my own edge on it, I found that someone at the factory put a divot in the edge just down from the tip. Thought I got it taken care of it after honing for a half hour, but the divot is still there. It'll get there in time, with more honing. The, dullish edge bothers me, but I'll get rid of it eventually. My problem child.

  - I love it. I prefer the blade design over the USMC style. I wish KA-BAR would consider a 5" or 5.5" blade version, keeping the handle and guard the same size. More of an EDC size blade.

  - Got exactly what I ordered. It has a super sharp and light blade with a KA-BAR style handle to suit. The handle is slightly weighted, so the overall weight of the knife is barely balanced to the rear of the hand --- hardly noticeable. The sheath is plastic, but well-made to carry and holster the knife. The sheath has multiple attachment points so you can tie it off anywhere on gear or other parts of the body. The sheath also has three locking points --- two button hasps and a plastic lip. The plastic lip lock isn't too hard to disengage with a bit of practice. The overall style is interesting, and I had to do a bit of looking up to figure out why it's still called a "Tanto" despite the blade design. Turns out this blade is designed after the original Japanese tanto blade, which was essentially a short sword originating during feudal Japan. The Americans (the USA in general) then made their own version, giving rise to the "American tanto" blade, which we all know. Based off of the pictures alone, it seems both the American tanto and this modified tanto blade have precursors to feudal Japan. I've seen pictures of both designs (angled edge vs non-angled edge) used, so if you want to get "technical," you can find both designs used in the past. Both edges were meant to pierce armor easily, so take that as you will (highly doubt they'd pierce an AR550 plate lmao). As a general-purpose knife, it will get you there. Can open cans. Can whittle with it. Can cut shit with it, as you do. However, for field dressing, I'd still prefer a bowie knife as with that thicker blade, I can use a rock to pound through a deer's pelvic or chest bone. But based off of sharpness alone, you'd be able to skin animals pretty easily with this thing.

  - This blade is an all around design. No, not like other tantos, advertised for punchin holes in car doors and hoods. This superb blade design is for useful purposes, whether they entail working on game, cooking, or removing undesirable social difficulties. It's not a toy, but an extremely versatile design. Thank God, it doesn't have a serrated edge. It's long, graceful edge is useful, leathal, and easily maintained. The scabbard is the best by Ka-Bar, by far. Ambidextrous, silent, swift, and sure, this is the ideal scabbard for serious carriage and EDC. I do wish, however, the grip were 1" longer, and that the blade had provision for a lanyard. Again, I'm most impressed with this latest Ka-Bar offering, and it's this 70 year old's new EDC. It meets my anticipated needs, and I'm very happy with it. Worth every penny, but when the price does come down, I'll buy another- for as everyone knows, it's better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have. Bravo Zulu, Ka-Bar!!!

  - WOW! its an axe. came down on cardboard box with about 3 lbs pressure... sliced right through!!!!, the weight of the blade and handle did all the work.. i bought a leather/wood stropping block to keep it up to par.. I am 777% satisfied with this knife, for hunting, self defense, anything really. literally the best knife i have, and WILL be ordering more. KA-BAR is the master of the blade for sure!!!! its literally the shortest sword Ive ever owned. hoping the throwing knives come back in stock soon!!! anyway i can get on a waiting list for them??

  - I hike frequently on the trail and through the woods in northern MN. I go alone and also will often take my wife and 3 young kids with me. I often see bear and wolf sign on the trail and was looking for a knife that would do wood processing etc but also give me some security concerning predators, both two and four legged. This knife is the perfect combination. I've done some carving and brush clearing, lots of kitchen chores, tons of stuff around the house and in the woods. I've carried it exclusively on the trail for almost a year and have zero complaints. Definitely my favorite knife. I replaced my BK7 with it. The sheath is top quality and I love the extra retention straps. I get in deep in the brush sometimes and have to crawl through on my belly and never worry about losing the knife. It works great tied down to the leg, but I mostly carry it with kabar's attachment system- scout carry. Really I couldn't be happier.

  - A fantastic knife by far. Feels great in the hand and you can tell its a Ka-Bar when you grip the handle. It has that same quality that Ka-Bar is known for. My only wish is that it had a leather sheath option. And it wont work with the normal USMC leather sheath cause this blade is a inch longer. So would love to see a leatger sheath option but other than that zero issues with this knife.

  - Best fighting knife Ka-Bar makes. . Yes, I would pick this over the Ek Commando knives. If you are looking for a knife that can penetrate, this is it. The kanmuri-otoshi style blade is wonderful. If your State allows, I highly recommend having the top of the blade sharpened as well. . I have 4 of these, just in case they stop making them.
